What to Expect

Flint River is located on the east side of Huntsville, Alabama. The river has an easy and safe flow suitable for all skill levels. There are several shuttles for paddlers with their own kayaks as well as outfitters for those who need to rent a kayak. There are several popular launchs along the river. These include Hwy 72 East, Little Cove Road, Old Hwy 431 near Hays Nature Preserve, Hobbs Island Road, and Clouds Cove Road. Hobbs Island Road and Clouds Cove Road are the last launch sites before the Flint River intersects with the Tennessee River.

The river is well maintained from Ryland Pike to Little Cove Road by the North Alabama Canoe and Kayak association. If you travel past Hays Nature Preserve, you will most likely have to drag your kayak around log jams and other blockages.
