I love my mom! She called me in January and said, “I need you to go to California with me”. It’s important for me to point out that Mom always gets lost! She grew up outside of Memphis, TN and had to call me one time because she was lost in Memphis… We finally figured out that she was behind the Super K-Mart! She has NO SENSE of direction what so ever! That being said there was NO WAY I was going to let her go to California without me. (I didn’t want my mom lost all the way across the country!)

She wanted to go to my cousin’s graduation from Army and Navy Academy in San Diego, California. No problem! Then she told me she wanted to extend the trip and visit Stanislaus National Forest, Yosemite National Park, Sierra National Forest, Kings Canyon National Park, Sequoia National Park, Carmel-By-The-Sea, and San Francisco. WOW! This was going to be a BIG trip. I only had two weeks between school ending and the start of summer school – I’m a middle school math teacher. She worked out the details with her travel agent and we were ready to go!

We had a great weekend with my aunt, uncle, and cousins at the graduation. The took us to a lot of interesting places – I didn’t realize how much I had missed them until this trip πŸ™ At the end of the weekend, Aunt Nannie and Uncle Norris dropped us off at the airport. We were flying to San Francisco and renting a car – we would be driving on the remainder of the trip. The flight was ok – I hate to fly! I went to sleep and mom made friends with EVERYONE on the plane. I find this ironic since she is ALWAYS telling me not to talk to strangers!

San Francisco International Airport… What in the WORLD?!?!?! Oh my!

We got to our hotel and readied ourselves for a lot of driving – we were both excited. The next day we headed out to our cabin in Yosemite. We stopped often on our way through the park – it was BEAUTIFUL and so different from the southeast!

By the time we got to the cabin, Mom was exhausted. She fell asleep on the sofa with the travel itinerary booklet in her lap πŸ™‚ She was so excited about this trip!

The next morning we both slept in until about 8 or 9am. We headed out to see the world! It was a rainy day but that wasn’t going to slow us down! We headed to Yosemite Valley. We were planning on visiting Yosemite Village and the Ahwahnee Hotel (now called The Majestic Hotel). We shopped for a short time and went into all of the buildings. I really liked the Yosemite National Park Shop – it was a hiker’s trail shop which made me want to start hiking πŸ™‚ and I needed to pick up souvenirs. After shoping, we headed to the Ahwahnee Hotel for lunch. Mom wanted to go to a restaurant in the hotel. It is now The Majestic Yosemite Hotel Bar. We also went to the sweet shop – YUM! We saw a lot of neat things in the village and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Yosemite.

On the way back to the cabin, we got to do a little site seeing! Everything in the forest is BEAUTIFUL!

One place I’d like to give special mention is Glacier Point. We were heading back to the cabin when I saw a sign that said Glacier Point. It wasn’t on the list of “must sees” in the travel itinerary but I told Mom I wanted to drive up the road. It was almost dark but we wanted to see what was up there… on the way up the road, we saw a momma bear with her two cubs. I got a few pictures with my phone but the bear were so far away that you could bearly (hahaha) see them in the picture. When we made it to the top, I was really excited. This was my kinda place! Lots of hiking trails and great views – it should have been a “must see” in the travel itinerary!

Well, it was time for us to leave Yosemite πŸ™ I did not want to leave. It was SO beautiful and I wanted to explore the trails but that will have to wait for another trip… It all started with Mom’s bucketlist trip and, now, its been transfered to my bucketlist!
